What is Fritzing

Fritzing is an open-source hardware initiative by http://www.fritzing.org/home which makes eletronics prototyping easy for everyone.   The real beauty of the project is a free software tool which is provided for drawing your designs and creating either a circuit diagram or a board layout from it.   It makes the process of documenting your projects much easier.   The project was first devices at the University of Applied Science, Potsdam.    If you're interested please check out their website or download the Fritzing software package from them via this easy link.

Nano Driver - Windows 7 Instructions

In certain situations, Windows 7 will recognize and install the incorrect FTDI (USB) software drivers for the Nano V3 devices.   Characteristics of this behavior are as follows:
  • When uploading a sketch, you receive the error “avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00”.
  • Unable to receive serial data through USB by use of the “Serial Monitor” under Tools in the Arduino compiler.
  • While attempting an upload you will notice the RX light flash and but not the TX light on the device.

Files Needed:

The instructions below outline how to remove the incorrect drivers, install the correct drivers, and configure Windows driver update behavior when finding new devices.   The basic steps are:
  1. Configure Windows 7 to not automatically search Windows Update for the latest drivers
  2. Uninstall any FTDI drivers currently installed pertaining to the Arduino NANO style devices
  3. Install the correct FTDI drivers for Nano V3 devices
Start Easy & Go Strong

This week we will focus on good beginnings.   For those of you who are just getting started in the world of micro-controllers and hardware hacking, this is the perfect place for you to be.   There are so many choices out there, and for the beginner they all look alike.   There are a few questions you have to ask yourself before you begin, and those questions are:

  1. What am I attempting to get out of this?
  2. Am I working towards a goal, or just learning?
  3. Am I prototyping for an existing idea?
  4. What is my budget to start with?
Buy direct and Save!

As we continue to build-out our site and our inventory, many of you are starting to form a relationship with our team.   First and foremost we want to take a moment to thank you for choosing us as your source for components.   We will continue to keep a strong E-Bay presence as we build out the sales presence on this site as well.   One thing you will likely notice is that on many items there is a substantial discount for purchasing directly from us.   As we save money on the overhead of the auctions, we pass that savings onto our customers.    Also from time to time you will find special deals and packages which are only available directly from the Circuit Attic itself.

Keep checking here for upcoming events, specials and deals as the holiday season approaches.   Thank you again and happy building!
